Competition

There are numerous companies currently developing run-of-river hydro projects. Most notable are Plutonic Power Corporation, Run-of-River Power Inc. and Hydromax. Plutonic is currently developing 2 projects for a total of 200MW, with ambitious plans to develop others much further north in the BC Coast. The initial 200MW of development is contingent on the construction of a 145km transmission line through rugged terrain. Another company, Run-of-River Power Inc., is developing nine projects near Vancouver, totaling 194MW. These projects, however, are contingent on the approval of a transmission line through a provincial park. A third company, Hydromax, is a subsidiary of a large utility (Enmax) and is currently developing 2 projects for a total of 20MW. Again, the cost of the transmission lines to this area will be an important issue in the execution of the projects. These companies also have numerous projects in early stage development. The projects proposed by Max will be more competitive due to transmission, permitting, and stakeholder issues for the competitors projects.
